Project funding

Guide to project funding

NORA provides funding to collaboration projects that include partners from at least two of the four NORA constituents (the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and coastal Norway). The common thread linking all the projects is a relevance to NORA’s objective: to create a strong and dynamic North Atlantic region that is defined by its healthy and sustainable economies. Projects are consistent with the NORA strategy programme at the time the grant was approved. Anyone — companies, public institutions, individuals — can apply for funding.

NORA funding can be applied to projects ranging from one to three years. Projects can receive a maximum of 500,000 Danish kroner per year — or 1.5 million kroner in total for a three-year project. Project applications should address one or more of the priority areas defined in NORA’s Strategic Programme for 2021-2024. More information about the priority areas is available in the “We are considering whether to apply” section and further expanded on in the strategy paper itself.

As NORA also works to further collaboration with our neighbours to the west, we welcome projects that include partners from outside the area, in particular Canada and Scotland.

In general, we do not grant funding to research projects, or to projects that are of a cultural nature. There are other funding mechanisms for these types of projects, including Nordforsk and the Nordic Culture Fund.

This project-application guide offers advice and seeks to answer questions about the application process.

We recommend you read it carefully before you submit your application.

In the “We are considering whether to apply” and “We are writing an application” sections, you will find answers to some of the questions that typically arise during these phases.

In the “We were approved for funding” and “We have started our project” sections you will find information about reporting and disbursal of grant funds. The “We are about to finish our project” section contains information about requirements for the final report and accounts.

The next application deadline is midnight greenlandic time on 4 March 2024. (03.00 UTC on 5 March 2024).
